2014 Special Excursions

Special events of all kinds are offered throughout the year. Most require reservations and are non-refundable. In case of a cancellation, a certificate for the purchase amount may be offered. Handicap accessibility is limited, mostly to Lester River and Pizza Train excursions only.

Princess Tea-Time Express

Experience Princess-Class service on the lovely dining car of the North Shore Scenic Railroad. Dress up and join the five grown-up Princesses and two Prince charmings who will be roaming the train visiting with guests.

Steam Train Excursions

Steam Train!

There are no steam excursions scheduled in 2014.

Soo Line Steam Locomotive #2719 is currently on display at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, and will be out of service for maintenance for the next few years.

However, another steam locomotive is near completion for service, and is planned to be in operating condition in early summer 2015.

Elegant Dinner Train

North Shore Scenic Railroad's Elegant Dinner Train

Murder on the Disoriented Express

Ride the North Shore Scenic Railroad's Murder Mystery Train!

Traveling by train can be fun, romantic, and sometimes dangerous. Take the case of the North Shore Scenic Railroadʹs Elegant Dinner Train. A group of people, most of whom are strangers to one another, sit down to a gourmet meal in the beautiful Lake of the Isles dining car.  As the train pulls out of the Depot in Duluth and heads onto the Lakefront Line, the guests in the dining car meet one another and find that there is something just a little off balance. An air of mystery surrounds the alter‐egos of some of the passengers...

Almost as if planned to the exact minute, the train crosses Railroad Street and the diesel engine's horn blares out its warning...a shot rings out! One of the passengers has met a cruel and quite fatal end. For the remainder of the evening, your job is to solve the crime and deliver the guilty party to authorities by the time the train returns to the station. Of course, because this is a sophisticated and elegant evening, dinner and cocktails will continue as if there is nothing wrong.  Fortunately, there is a world famous detective on board to assist in finding the guilty party.

It's an evening of mirth, merriment, and mayhem on The Disoriented Express!

Fall Colors Tour

See the majestic fall colors aboard the North Shore Scenic Railroad

CNN named the 6-hour North Shore Fall Color Train Tours along Lake Superior the "Top 5 of the Top 10 in America!"

September and October

Friday, Saturday Sunday starting September 19th.

Enjoy the changing colors as you travel to the historic town of Two Harbors, Minnesota.

Total excursion time is six hours, with a 2-hour stop in Two Harbors where you're free to tour, shop, eat, and enjoy!

The Pumpkin Train

Ride the Pumpkin Patch Train to our pumpkin patch on the edge of town, de-board and pick your own pumpkin! 

On the train enjoy magic, and back at the depot, we'll have juggling, coloring, bounce houses, slides, and more! ONE WEEKEND ONLY!

NSSR Pumpkin Train

The annual Beer Train is hosted by the area's leading local breweries and brew pubs.

There will be food, gifts and BEER in first class.Entertainment at a local club follows the beer tasting.
